You can get a quarter, half or a whole chicken at these shops and they serve it to you with salad, bread and tahini. On this day, to celebrate (or mourn in my case) Zain's last day in Cairo, we split an entire chicken.
There was a leak in the ceiling of the tiny lofted upstairs that serves as dining room in this shop on Kasr el-Aini Street, so we stuffed ourselves into one corner along with a group of men in galabeas and red and white checked bedouin scarfs. We then proceeded to gorge ourselves on greasy, crispy, chickeny goodness.
